Question:  Adding a new Dog/Cat to the website

A new dog/cat has found its way to the safety of rescue. Now it’s time to enter them into the system so you can get them listed on the website, track their medicals, assess their behavior, note their routine, get donations for them and soooooo much more!

Basic Information

  1. On your Dashboard, hover over Dogs on the left side of the screen. Choose “Add A New Dog (or Cat)”.
  2. You will get this screen where you can start adding the dog’s information:
  3. To add the dog’s name, type the name over where it says “DOG’S (or CAT’S) NAME”:
  4. Next, select their status by clicking on “Select Status” to get the drop-down box of statuses (or is that stati, like cacti?).
  5. You can also select a Public Tag which will go over the dog/cat’s picture on the website. Go to the little tag icon on the right of the dog/cat’s name and click on it to get a drop down of available tags. Select the one you want and it will automatically insert the tag:
  6. There is also an Internal Tag feature just below the status box which will attach to the Dog/Cat’s record but will not be visible to the public.
  7. Add a picture of the dog/cat by clicking on the Dog/Cat Icon, which will bring up your Media Library, then click on the image you want to use. (If you need to upload an image, please check out our handy, dandy “How Do I Upload An Image” instruction sheet.)
  8. Once you have selected your image, click on Set Featured Image on bottom of the right side of the Media Files Page to insert it into the dog/cat’s profile. To add more images, either now or later, click on the little circle/plus sign on the dog/cat’s record next to the featured image. That will take you back to your Media Library where you can just click on the images you want to put on the dog/cat’s page (hold the Ctrl key while you click to select more than one), the Add Dog/Cat Images to add them to the dog/cat’s record.
  9. If you have video for pet, you can enter the YouTube link just below the photo section by clicking on the little circle/plus sign and inserting the link:

My Pack Section

On the top right portion of the screen, you will see a box that says “MY PACK.” You now are going to start clicking on the various items there to answer them.

  1. If the dog/cat is bonded, then click on it and select who they are bonded with from the drop-down list of previously entered dogs/cats, etc. Of course, if the pet is not bonded, you can just leave it blank. Any information entered here will appear on the dogs/cats’s webpage.
  2. If the dog has a designated Pet Rep, enter it on the right side of the dogs/cats’s record, or you can always add it later.
  3. A new added feature here is you now select the Current Foster from the Intake Screen under My Pack – no more hopping back and forth between screens like a frog on steroids! In fact, to save you a bit of work down the road, we strongly encourage you to enter it here (either now or later when a foster is found), and not use another screen to enter it.When you click on Select Current Foster, you will get a drop down of the foster homes you have previously approved/entered.

When you enter the foster, this will also send the email which your admin has set up to the foster notifying them the foster dog/cat has been assigned to them and will transfer to their Dashboard when you save the dog/cats’s record

  4. To the right of My Pack is a listing of icons which will allow you to do certain things with the record and can be used at any time:
  5. A note on the adoption fee entry – if you click on it, you will then get a screen where you can set (or later change) the adoption fee from your present preset fee. Just click the Enter Amount Manually box and enter the amount. You can also decide whether you want to show the fee on the website.
    1. Some rescues suggest doing this since then everyone knows what the fee is and won’t bug you about “how much” or have sticker shock at the fee – you know those folks who think all rescue dogs should be free! If you are trying to decide whether to discount the fee because the dog/cat is a senior, special needs, etc., then just click “No” for show fee on website.
    2. If you do decide to show the fee, it will show up on the dog/cats’s webpage:

Public Facing Information Section

  1. So where do I enter the bio on the dog/cat? Rather than junk everything up with stuff you don’t need to get to often, it’s hidden until you need it! To get there to enter the basic information about the dog/cat, along with its description, and all the other information which appears on the public website, click on the half-circle with the down arrow:That will bring up the Public Facing Information box:
  2. First, is to pick a breed for the dog/cat from the drop-down list for the Primary and Secondary breed. Just choose the best answer by scrolling through them.
  3. Keep entering information about the dog/cat by either choosing from the drop-down menus or typing in the information. REMEMBER, this will all be seen on thedog/cat’s public webpage.
  4. Next are some basic behavioral issues and conditions. You may not know some of the information, but not to worry, it can be entered later.A quick word or two about special needs:
    • If you don’t know if an intake condition is permanent, then you can click either yes or no – it can always be changed at any time later.
    • You can choose more than one item from the drop down boxes by clicking in the Select All That Apply until all are entered box:

Once all the information is entered, you will have something that looks like this:

  5. Then comes the Brief Description which is a few words to describe the dog/cat’s personality. These few words are oh so important since they are on the thumbnail for the dog/cat on your website, so choose your words wisely to convey the general personality of the dog/cat:

Next is the full description which will appear on the dog/cat’s web page:

Which will show up like this:

Now back to our regularly scheduled program of entering the dog/cat.

Is all the information you want the public to know at this point input? Then let’s get this puppy on the website!

Scroll back up to the top and click the PUBLISH button on the top right side.

Once saved – the dog/cat is official and now has a webpage and record in the system!

And, if you want to see what it looks like, click on the   Under Publish (which has now changed to UPDATE, since the dog has gone “live.)

But what about the Internal Information – Intake, Routine, Medical, etc., you ask.

Those are covered in other Instructional Sheets.
